Carol Kim, candidate for the 6th City Council District seat, has accused her opponent Chris Cate of falsifying documents with respect to his primary residence. Ms. Kim asserts that candidate Cate has claimed two different “primary residences,” one in the 6th District where he is running for City Council and another in North County, where Cate received a tax break because the property was reputedly his primary residence.
The question is did Cate stop receiving a tax exemption on his North County property once he moved into the 6th City Council District? There are documents filed with the San Diego City Clerk stating that candidate Cate had a Mira Mesa address while he was still receiving a tax break for owner occupancy of his North County residence. Kim challenged her opponent to explain the conflicting information about his primary residence.
“Explain to us how you were living in the 6th City Council District of San Diego at the same time you were taking an exemption on your property taxes that required you to live in your property in Carlsbad. And if you lived in the Carlsbad property as you said on your property taxes, why did you fail to disclose it on your Statement of Candidacy as required when you filed to run for office?”Kim asked.
San Diego LGBT Weekly reached out to Candidate Cate but has not yet received a response. LGBT Weekly will keep you updated as the story develops.
