SAN DIEGO – Thursday, Oct. 30, gay viral sensation and overnight YouTube celebrity, Steve Grand, returns to San Diego to headline the Orange Is Best With Black Halloween Party at Queen Bee’s, 3925 Ohio St. in North Park. This will be Grand’s first appearance in San Diego since October 2013. He will be promoting his upcoming new single, due out that same month. This will also be the first California performance for Grand that will feature his newly assembled rhythm section, the “Grand Band,” made up of San Diego musicians, James LaRue, Daniel Crawford, Jackson Price and household lesbian multi-instrumentalist Megan Jane (The Nervous Wreckords, Bitter Sober, Alicia Champion). Steve and his Grand Band will be joined on stage by local lesbian icon, Danielle LoPresti, and newcomers Peach, and Sleep Machine from Los Angeles.
Just over one year ago, Steve Grand set the internet ablaze with his bold, unapologetic music video, “All American Boy,” which went viral within a few days of upload, garnering him national television appearances on CNN, Good Morning America and more all within that same week. BuzzFeed called the video “one of the 24 most brilliant music videos of 2013,” and The Advocate credited it for making “a permanent shift in our culture.” He has since been hard at work finishing his debut album, set for release early next year, with the new single coming this October 2014.
Danielle LoPresti is no stranger to San Diego’s LGBT music scene. Dubbed San Diego’s “hottest lesbian” and a “gawk worthy presence” by San Diego’s local media, LoPresti has been honored time and again for her fearless activism through music and art. LoPresti is excited to revive her annual Halloween party, two years since the last event at Anthology in October 2012, when late stage cancer was [unknowingly] rampant throughout her body. She is now over one year in remission, and will be opening the stage for Steve Grand, with what will be a set filled with the exciting, socially relevant rock ‘n’ roll she’s best known for.
Newcomer Peach is a San Diego homegrown Soul/ R&B talent who has currently advanced to the second round of American Idol auditions, and who’s also gaining traction on Magic 92.5 FM. The night will open with Los Angeles upstarts, Sleep Machine, who were most recently featured on MTV’s hit drama series, Finding Carter.
