Peters campaign launches third TV ad: ‘Fair’ (VIDEO)

SAN DIEGO — The Scott Peters for Congress campaign has launched its third TV ad highlighting the stark difference between Peters and Carl DeMaio when it comes to fighting for equal pay for equal work for women.

As the ad points out, DeMaio “is funded by Tea Party extremists who oppose pay fairness for women. DeMaio’s pledged to support their extreme agenda in Congress.”

The ad opens with a shot of a mother leaving the house with her two school-bound kids. “You get the kids off to school, get to work early, only to find that women make less – 77 cents on the dollar,” the ad’s narrator says. “And Carl DeMaio would make it harder.”

After discussing DeMaio’s ties to the Tea Party, the ad concludes with Peters expressing support for the ad “because it’s time middle class families got a fair, and women got equal pay for equal work. That’s only fair.”

On Monday, Peters held a “Women Stand With Scott” press conference to demand immediate Congressional Action on bills that would guarantee women equal pay for equal work and reverse the impacts of the Supreme Court’s anti-women Hobby Lobby ruling.

Peters also demanded that DeMaio 1) renounce his support for a plan that would make birth control less affordable for women; 2) complete the Planned Parenthood candidate questionnaire so voters know where DeMaio stands on women’s reproductive rights; and 3) join in Peters’ call to Speaker Boehner to allow a vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act before Congress adjourns this week.

“Scott Peters is the only candidate in this race who has been an advocate of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would guarantee women equal pay for equal work,” said Alex Roth, communications director for the Scott Peters for Congress campaign. “DeMaio, meanwhile, has shown time and time again that he simply can’t be trusted to stand up for women. His Tea Party ties are only the latest evidence that he’s too extreme for San Diego.”

The ad is part of the campaign’s $2.2 million ad buy and will be broadcast throughout the district on broadcast, cable and online.
