A Compton school board member has pleaded not guilty to oral copulation of his friend while he was asleep while they were staying in a San Diego hotel.
Skyy de Anthony Fisher, 31, is free on $100,000 bond and is awaiting a Nov. 5 preliminary hearing in San Diego Superior Court. The lone charge is oral copulation of an unconscious person April 5.
Some community leaders in Compton asked for Fisher’s resignation, but he remains in office. He was elected when he was 28 years old and is one of the youngest school board officials in the area.
A spokesperson for Fisher issued a statement after his July arrest, saying “Mr. Fisher expects to be fully exonerated and vindicated in this matter.”
Controversy has visited Fisher before. In 2012, Fisher, who is black, referred to the late Trayvon Martin as “that faggot black dude in Florida” who was shot to death by George Zimmerman. A jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder in a controversial trial.
Fisher at the time blamed his misuse of alcohol when he made the statement about the slain black teenager. He also called the Compton interim school superintendent “a bitch,” and later apologized for saying that, according to the Los Angeles Times and other media.
Fisher and a male friend, 26, were staying at the Keating Hotel at 432 F Street in San Diego April 4. The friend notified San Diego Police that he caught Fisher orally copulating him while he was asleep. The friend punched Fisher, and left him there while he went to police.
The alleged victim submitted himself to a Sexual Assault Response Team(SART) exam, and male DNA was found on his penis and it was not related to the victim. Fisher, upon arrest, had a mouth swab taken, and it matched the DNA collected in the sample, according to court records.
The friend told police he woke up in a separate bed and discovered Fisher orally copulating him. Upon realizing the friend had awakened, Fisher went to his own bed and pretended he was asleep. The friend told police he could not find his underwear.
In a second meeting with police April 18, the friend talked to Fisher in a taped recorded call, and Fisher apologized for the incident. Fisher said he hid the friend’s underwear as a prank, and did not know why he orally copulated him, according to an arrest warrant declaration.
The friend told police he is straight and he believed Fisher was also straight.
The spokesperson for Fisher, Jasmyne Cannick, said Fisher’s critics claimed the victim was a minor, and she cited the police department’s arrest warrant that said the victim was “a 26-year-old male.”
“Mr. Fisher is focused on serving the children and parents of the Compton Unified School District and is not resigning from his position as member of the Governing Board of Trustees,” said Cannick.
If the recording was made without Fisher’s knowledge, as required in the State of California, anything said will be tossed out and Fisher can sue for illegal recording.
