SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Police Foundation’s annual Gold Shield Gala is set to take place Saturday, October 4 and will support the foundation’s mission to fund critical equipment, training and outreach programs for the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). The annual dinner and dancing celebration will turn the spotlight on public safety featuring a futuristic vibe: “The Future’s So Bright, You Gotta Wear Shades.” Chaired by Kathryn and Don Vaughn, the gala and will be held at the Del Mar Country Club.
The San Diego Police Foundation’s “K9 Crimefighters Campaign” is the evening’s charitable focus, aiming to fund new canines for the K9 Unit. Seventeen of the SDPD’s 31 police service dogs will retire in the next three years. Police service dogs are force-multipliers that defuse violent confrontation and save lives while they solve crimes. The San Diego Police Foundation asks the community to help fund these K9 Crimefighters that cost approximately $30,000 each. Live auction packages include an Ultimate K9 Crimefighters Experience with a behind-the-scenes visit to the K9 training facility to see the athletic and beautiful police canines in action.
Guests are invited to wear cocktail attire with a bright futuristic twist. Gala organizers plan a luminous evening featuring live music and dancing from The Mighty Untouchables and unparalleled auction items. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and hear from SDPD Chief Shelley Zimmerman.
Tickets are $185 per person, with tables of 10 for $1,750. They can be reserved by calling (619) 232-2130 or visiting www.sdpolicefoundation.org. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For details, contact KC McCarthy at kc@sdpolicefoundation.org.
