SAN DIEGO – It is said that we are all inter-connected and that these connections are what create opportunities for growth and advancement. For local blues/indie-rock band Rhythm and the Method (RatM), this is especially true. The very fact that its members arethree blood relatives who found the missing pieces through a series of connections is a testament to this. After being an active part of the local music scene for over six years, RatM is finally making huge steps toward being truly successful as a band. In the past three months, they have released their first professionally produced music video (watch above), played various shows including the House of Blues main-stage, and has booked an East Coast tour focusing on Massachusetts.
For the music video of their original song “4th Dimension”, RatM was introduced to Hollywood director Jenn Page through a mutual friend and colleague, Alicia Champion of Durga Sound.
The importance of community and shared support of others in the business are often overlooked and underappreciated. When you reach out and support other artists, they often in turn (and willingly, too) support you back. RatM’s bassist and executive producer, Laura Payne, supported an indie filmmaker with her newest project, and in return, an amazing music video was born and a brand new business relationship created.
“It has been one serendipitous event after another since I’ve been back, and I really feel good about it. This is our time to shine and to make a lasting impression on our community and beyond!” says front-woman and drummer Rhythm Turner. Turner has recently returned from living abroad and has hit the ground running with her efforts to make a name for her band.
At their most recent show, RatM- along with a few other local bands- filled the House of Blues in San Diego, and the momentum just keeps going. It has been confirmed that the band is invited to perform at the 18th annual Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival this September, a huge opportunity for exposure within the music and film industries.
To follow in the fall, the band is booking a mini-tour on the East Coast, concentrating first on the Boston area. They will continue to promote their 2012 Durga Sound album release, Hello! as they tour, with a goal to then finish up tracks for their second album by late 2015.
Being truly “indie”, from the start the band has been funding their endeavors out of their own pockets and through working hard in the field of music and entertainment. Rhythm and the Method has contributed to many San Diego communities and their events since 2007, and doing so has prepared them to make the next big move toward indie record label representation and management. There is a crowdfunding project in the works, so there will soon be an opportunity for fans and friends alike to help support this up-and-coming homegrown band.
