SAN DIEGO — Will Walters, founder and president of San Diego-based civil rights education organization, FreeWillUSA invites San Diegans and visitors alike to join him for an evening of food, friends, fun and a little bit of fundraising, this Thursday, Aug. 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Harvey Milk’s American Diner, Sixth Avenue and University in Hillcrest.
FreeWillUSA is a San Diego-based non-profit organization that takes the message of equality and the power and importance of the Bill of Rights and of all the rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion or any minority status across the country. In the last year alone, FreeWillUSA has taken its message of equal rights from coast to coast, from the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood to the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
FreeWillUSA first made a splash by making civil rights sexy by launching the “Know Rights -or- No Rights” tattoo and visual-graphics campaign (#KRONR).
Now you can help FreeWillUSA develop a brand new program that brings filmmakers, artists and civil rights leaders into classrooms to help give teachers exciting new ways to make learning about government and the Constitution more relatable and attractive.
“I’m so thrilled about our first Hot Summer Fun-der,” said Walters. “And grateful to Harvey Milk’s American Diner, hostess, Candi Samples and all of our sponsors for making this event — let’s call it what it is, this celebration of our rights — possible. It’s going to be a great time and a fun way to support civil rights education.”
The theme for the Aug. 14 event at Harvey Milk’s American Diner is “Summer Thunder,” so knock us out with your sexiest summer wear. If you like looking at guys and gals in tank tops — or don’t mind showing off your own shoulders — you can help FreeWillUSA establish the Hot Summer Fun-der at Harvey Milk’s American Diner as a new summertime tradition, where folks show up in their favorite tanks in support of civil rights.
In addition to an opportunity drawing, there will also be a silent auction with exciting luxury items, including seven days accommodation at a high-end resort in Mazatlan. Free hors d’oeuvres will be served. Donations taken at the door – no minimum, no maximum.
For those unable to attend but who want to support FreeWillUSA’s efforts to educate people about their rights under the U.S. Constitution, visit freewillusa.com to learn how to get involved and to make a donation.
