Steven Soderbergh directs this TV show about a New York City hospital at the turn of the last century. Starring Clive Owen as the drug-addled chief of surgery and André Holland as the hospital’s first black doctor, the show is supposed to be bloody, tense and brilliant. Soderbergh supposedly has retired from making movies (after directing four or five masterpieces like Traffic and Sex, Lies, and Videotape) but television now has him, and we’re lucky for it. The Knick has potential to be the next great cable drama.
