Leaders of Gay-Straight Alliance youth movement to unite in Minneapolis for ninth annual national gathering

Gay-Straight Alliance Network (GSA Network) will hold its ninth annual national gathering from July 31-Aug. 3 in Minneapolis, bringing together youth and adult ally GSA leaders from across the country for four days of workshops, trainings and plenaries focused on strengthening the national GSA movement.

Gay-Straight Alliance clubs are student-led groups that work to transform their schools and provide a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth. CeCe McDonald, a young transgender woman and activist who was incarcerated for defending herself from a racist and transphobic attack, will keynote the opening reception.

Themed “GSAsUnite! Access and Economic Justice for Trans* and Queer Youth,” the conference will also feature a plenary with prominent activists including former Queers for Economic Justice leaders Kenyon Farrow and Jay Toole, activist Victoria Villalba and Yordy Cancino, a GSA alum recently released from a border detention center after thousands of GSA and immigrant activists rallied behind him.

The 2014 national gathering, presented by GSA Network, will take place from July 31 to Aug. 3 at the University of Minnesota. Out4Good, a program of Minneapolis Public Schools serving LGBT students, families, and staff, is the host of this year’s conference.
