Surf Craft

A unique surfboard exhibition exploring board design from a previously unexamined perspective: in the context of Soetsu Yanagi’s mingei philosophy of the importance of craft. Through this lens, the exhibition will capture the influences behind American design in board riding, from the alaia boards of ancient Hawaii, to obscure surf bathing boards of England, Japan and Africa, to post-war hydrodynamic planing hulls of Southern California.

Romance/Romance

Frothy and fun, this musical reminds us of those secret, frivolous and embarrassing romantic impulses to which we are susceptible. In this rousing two act musical we take a varied look at romance seekers in two ways: from a delightful romp through the sexual ennui of turn of the century Vienna in the first act, to a second act modern look at affection and disaffection in a summer house in the Hamptons. Romance/Romance is a sweetheart of a musical, perfect for North Coast Rep’s intimate stage.

North Coast Repertory Theatre, 987 Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach, 7 p.m., tickets $47, 858-481-1055, northcoastrep.org
