You have to give it to Marvel Comics, just in time for Comic-Con next week, the company announces that Thor will be a woman going forward. No not a female version of Thor, but actually Thor. Marvel sought the best audience possible to make the announcement; ABC’s female-centric talk show The View.
Who is this woman and where did she come from? What did the original God of Thunder do to be exiled from his position and considered unworthy of Mjolnir? The only thing that may create more talk at Comic-Con will be the announcement of a female superhero movie franchise. Ladies, get out that Valkyrie costume, make a few modifications, add a paper mache hammer and voila, you will be the first female Thor at Comic-Con.
Before you run to conclusions, Thor is female. It is not the old male Thor who has transitioned to become a woman. I repeat, this is not a sex-change in the transgender sense. Many fans are saying they didn’t know and don’t agree that Thor is a title. So much controversy, so little time. Well not really, there will be a week long discussion, as well as a line out the door at Marvel events at the 2014 Comic-Con. If nothing else, Marvel you sure do know how to create buzz.
