Damon Lindelof, the producer of Lost, has taken Tom Perotta’s novel about the people in a suburban town left after the Rapture and turned it into HBO’s next prestige series. It’s hard to know how good the show will be, since Lindelof has famously ruined several screenplays over the last few years (including his rewrites of Prometheus and World War Z), but it looks incredibly promising. The usually great Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) is directing several episodes and the previews have shown some intense scenes with Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler and Amy Brenneman. If anything, the wonderfully liberal HBO’s take on the Rapture will be a good antidote to the Kirk Cameron-starring Left Behind series that are the religious right’s Game of the Thrones.
