San Diego’s new downtown Central Library at 330 Park Blvd. will host the 39th annual Nicky Awards dubbed “The Gay Academy Awards” by the Union Tribune.

The Nicky Awards are one of the oldest LGBT community awards in the nation. The award’s founder, City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez, who established the awards almost four decades ago turned over the Nicky Awards to the Imperial Court de San Diego and since its inception, it has annually raised money for countless LGBT causes and non-profit organizations.

The Nicky Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the LGBT community in the arts, social service, business, sports, entertainment, leadership, activism, service industry and non-profit organizations.

Community activist Allan Spyere will once again produce and chair the Nicky Awards board of governors and promises a faster paced exciting event with great entertainment.

The Nicky Awards have attracted a huge attendance including prominent public officials from members of Congress, mayors to police chiefs and senators. Then governor, Gray Davis praised the awards stating, “By showcasing excellence in the LGBT community, the Nicky Awards serve as proof that every person has something important to contribute.”
