In the early 1980s, the tech boom in Texas is seen through, as we’re told by AMC, a visionary (Lee Pace from Pushing Daisies and The Hobbit), an engineer (Scott McNary from Argo) and a prodigy (a punkish McKenzie Davis). The clips that have been making the rounds are as stylish and intense as Mad Men, and the show seems to be the hoped-for replacement for the network’s signature historical workplace drama. The presence of Pace and McNary, both major character actors who choose their projects carefully, indicates that the Halt and Catch Fire probably has some pretty good scripts. If anything, I want to support Pace as a leading man, and not only because he was recently outed by Ian McKellen.
