Community Toast to Harvey Milk
May 22, Harvey Milk‘s birthday, San Diego Remembers invites everyone to join friends for the second annual Community Toast to Harvey Milk, a free annual event held in Harvey’s honor. The community will gather at the eastern end of Harvey Milk Street in the front of The San Diego LGBT Community Center for brief remarks, then take a walk of remembrance down the first street in the nation named in honor of Harvey, heading along University Avenue to Harvey Milk’s American Diner in the heart of Hillcrest for socializing, drink specials and a unified community toast to Harvey.

Against Me
To pirate the title of one of their early songs (and still a set-list staple), Against Me! is a band that laughs at danger and breaks all the rules. Fronted by Laura Jane Grace, AM!’s much-anticipated latest offering, Transgender Dysphoria Blues was released in January 2014. The title of their sixth album offers a direct nod to news that shocked fans and shook up the rock world when it was dropped – Grace is a transitioning transgender person.

The Banjo: A New Day for an Old Instrument
This special exhibit reveals a compelling and triumphant story about “America’s Instrument.” Today the banjo is nearly everywhere. It’s played on children’s television, late-night television and at the World Series. Grammy winning artists, famous comedians and international megastars place the banjo at the center of their acts. Today, the “happy instrument” is so popular, a Google search for “banjo lessons” turns up nearly four million hits in 0.25 seconds.
