Today the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) launched Start Talking. Stop HIV., a national HIV prevention campaign encouraging gay and bisexual men to talk openly and honestly about HIV. The campaign comes at a time when gay and bisexual men continue to make-up roughly 60% of all new infections in the United States.
Start Talking. Stop HIV. encourages men in all types of relationships to talk about HIV testing, their HIV status, condom use, and new medicines that help prevent and treat HIV. Campaign resources feature gay and bisexual men of various backgrounds and are designed to address the reality that it’s not always easy to bring up HIV with a sexual partner, and that the barriers to frank dialogue are real and challenging.
“It’s time to turn the volume up on HIV prevention …We commend the CDC for launching this campaign and look forward to working with them and others to raise awareness about HIV prevention and treatment and to end the stigma fueling this epidemic,” said HRC Vice President & Chief Foundation Officer Jeff Krehely.
