We got a sneak peek at what there is to expect at this year’s Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD) and we admit we’re impressed. Their Spring Showcase was held at Harrah’s Resort Southern California. Besides the sampling of this year’s designers there was also a performance by singer-songwriter Aquile who recently appeared alongside Christina Aguilera on NBC’s The Voice. Several designers had tables for guests to purchase some of their latest designs. Some vendors offered champagne and cupcakes. The showcase also featured a moving art exhibit by Launch Live Art. The showcase included new designers as well as some popular repeats. This year has men’s fashion designer J.L. Rocha and women’s evening and one of a kind couture gowns by B.JASH.I Couture who Tweeted, “Turning my dream into reality.” To ramp up for Fashion Week which will be held from Sept 30-Oct. 5, FWSD has a few events planned including Kickoff to Summer | Bikini Fashion Show May 30, Passport to Fashion June 28 and Culinary Couture Aug. 13. Workers United for Dignity & Justice

Dozens of protesters, students and workers attended the May Day Rally in San Diego which started at City College and ended with a march to Chicano Park May 1. Traditionally a day of protest for labor rights, community members took to the streets and called for immigration reform and improved wages and working conditions for women and the LGBTQ community. Cinco de Mayo Trail Run

Kim participated in this year’s Cinco de Mayo Trail Run which was launched by the Valley Elementary Educational Foundation in 2007 to raise money. Now, in its seventh year the event continues to grow and now provides fundraising opportunities for several schools in Poway. It was an extremely hot day and the trail was strenuous. The trail follows the same path toward the popular “Potato Chip” which is full of inclines. It’s a great workout with friends or family during the weekends and only 20 minutes away from downtown San Diego.

After the fire

We’re finally back home although there’s still construction going on outside our door. There’s dust everywhere causing our furry child (Cookie the Lhasa Apso) to have major eye issues. The vet bill is extreme but what other choice do we have? The good thing is that she’s finally feeling better and we’re home. Just hope it doesn’t affect our health anymore and they finish soon. It’s definitely harder to breathe. Who knows what’s in the air from the construction!? It’s already been two months. I’ve seen houses around here built in that amount of time.
