Buck Angel is arguably the most fascinating porn star alive, and it is not only because he is a rough muscle daddy who is a transman who decided not to have bottom surgery. That is what makes him a curiosity to some and extremely hot to others. But he is also an activist and a motivational speaker, and he’s very good in those roles, too. Dan Hunt’s documentary about Angel does him justice, tracing his life from tomboy childhood, to a career as a supermodel, from drug addiction and prostitution to his transition and career in porn, to his marriage to Elayne Angel and move to Mexico. The story itself is gripping, and Hunt skillfully edited the images and footage. But his interviews with Elayne and Angel’s parents and sister are particularly fascinating and moving. It’s a wonderful and important film about gender and sexuality, and it is a great story about an amazing, inspiring man.
