Breakfast with Ernie Dronenburg … hum

Prince Jay Heimbach and Princess Angel Fairfax

About a week ago I went to have a breakfast meeting with current County assessor/clerk/recorder – the controversial Ernie Dronenburg. (Four of us – both Republican and Democratic political gay activists.) I have met him before and always thought he was a most eccentric man and he reminds me of Floyd the barber on the old TV show Andy of Mayberry. (People say I’ve turned into Aunt Bee.)

Anyway, I must say I left this meeting even more convinced that he needs to retire as Ernie Dronenburg is totally out of touch with 21st century San Diego County. He is living in a different time and the world has passed him by.

I asked him many questions and among them was did he have any gay friends and he said … not really. Most importantly, I asked him had he ever been to any gay or Latino community events and he said, and I quote, “I have been to a few black events.”

Three of us at the table told him they were African American events … and he looked at us like a deer caught in the headlights.

Do I believe Mr. Dronenburg is a homophobe or a racist? No, not at all, but the truth is he seems to have no clue, understanding and much interaction with both the people of colors or GLBT communities and sounds like he has never even tried to learn more about the growing diversity of San Diego County. (The Latino and Asian-Pacific Islander communities are the fastest growing in the entire state.)

Our current County treasurer/tax collector – Dan McAllister is an example of an outstanding public servant who has probably been to more people of color and GLBT community events than I have!

To be very honest, I left this meeting kinda feeling sorry for Ernie. Ernie and I are both seniors and Christians but both of us don’t belong in elected public office for different reasons (smile)!

Ernie Dronenburg, unlike any public office holder that I have ever met is sadly a man that would better fit being a County assessor for the town where the Duck Dynasty clan lives!

It’s time to give Ernie Dronenburg a nice gold watch, a pat on the back and it’s time for Ernie to go … period.

Next Thursday is Dining Out For Life to benefit HIV/AIDS and there will be four special waiters and hosts at Harvey Milk’s American Diner in Hillcrest. Mayor Faulconer and former Councilman Carl DeMaio will wait tables at lunch and Council President Todd Gloria and School Board President Kevin Beiser will be taking on the dinner shift. I will be your official host at both lunch and dinner.

But, most importantly, mark April 24 on your calendar and go have breakfast, lunch or dinner at the almost 100 restaurants who have signed up.

Yes, a majority of GLBT people are Christian

This coming Sunday is Easter, one of the most holy of days for us Christians. Recent national studies and surveys have always revealed that a vast majority of GLBT people are spiritual and Christian.

I truly believe if Jesus Christ came down to Earth he would weep at what some churches and ministers are doing and saying in his Name. I deeply respect all religions, be they Jewish or Muslim, etc. I also respect atheists. But for me, as a Catholic and Christian, my belief in God has always been a part of my life and has been very important to me. Believe it or not I pray almost every day. So, I wish all of you a blessed Passover and Easter. God bless you all.

  1. Remember NICOLE—your favorite for DA, the incompetent and unprofessional Ms. Dumanis who only this week cost the City more than 8 million dollars in attorney’s fees for her wrongful prosecution of city pension board volunteers, has “enthusiastically” ENDORSED Ernie Dronenburg for re-election.
