‘Noah’ is one hot mess

Russell Crowe in Noah

At first I thought that some of the Christian leaders heavily criticizing the just-released biblical epic movie Noah were just too sensitive – ‘til I went to see this movie and it is just one big hot mess! I think any Christian would be insulted and upset because the producer has taken way more than “artistic, poetic license” – he has stolen the whole Noah Bible story and made it into a sci-fi monster movie with living rock creatures. It’s a very dark movie that to me sells more about protecting the environment and not eating meat than true Christian values of brotherhood.

It’s no surprise that the movie director is a confirmed atheist and also made the movie Black Swan, because Noah is just as dark and creepy. The bottom line is this movie is just an awful movie and within 15 minutes my pal Big Mike and I walked out.

Wall of Honor: April 11

In 2004 with the help of The Center and Imperial Court we established the LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor that you now see in the main auditorium of our LGBT Community Center. While many cities across the United States have such gay walls of honor, I wanted ours to make sure each honoree had their picture and bio on the wall and I am proud to say ours is the only one in the country that does. Next Friday, April 11 will be the sixth presentation of inductees into the Wall of Honor at The Center, 6 p.m., and the entire community is invited. Special guests will be Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Speaker-elect Toni Atkins and Council President Todd Gloria.

Personally, I want to say that though I come up with these ideas, be they Harvey Milk Street, Veterans Wall, Toni Atkins Health Fund, etc., etc., usually other people put together my visions and do all the hard work, and in this case, as most cases, it’s the great people at The Center. Thank you all.

The GLBT Historic Task Force: Chris Kehoe Middle School?

This organization was established to work on the successful Harvey Milk Street campaign and will soon meet to discuss a future public school named after Chris Kehoe and a 40th anniversary GLBT Pride exhibit at City Hall in July (This will be the second one.) and the procedures to get schools, parks and streets named after prominent GLBT San Diegans, because I am not stopping at just “Milk Street” as many GLBT citizens have made great contributions to our city. I will keep you posted.

Children’s Easter Egg Hunt

Last year, almost 500 children and their families showed up for the GLBT community’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at Trolley Barn Park in University Heights sponsored by the Imperial Court, The Center, Family Matters and the District 3 Council offices of Todd Gloria.

With a lot of help from local businesses, bars, the leather community and firefighters etc., last year the mayor and first lady showed up and a great time was had by all.

We need children’s Easter egg baskets and donations as we make sure every kid gets a basket.
