Lux Institute’s current artist in residence is Marcus Kenney. Poverty, alienation and social injustice are frequent themes in the multimedia works of Georgian painter and sculptor Kenney. His subjects, both humorous and macabre, suggest Southern Gothic dramas with folksy cross-cultural references. Kenney’s mixed media paintings and sculptures with found objects are well known and critically acclaimed. His masterful practice of collage techniques and assemblage are hallmarks of his oeuvre.

Jean Wells: Icons of Desire

Jean Wells is a San Diego-based artist known for her large-scale, eye-dazzling mosaic sculptures inspired by iconic popular culture and brand name products. Working in a similar oeuvre like the artists Andy Warhol, Wayne Thiebaud and Jeff Koons, Wells explores our growing nostalgia and relationship with everyday Americana subject matter such as ice cream, candy, food and drink, toys, graphic design and themes related to beauty and body image.
