SAN DIEGO — Tickets are still on sale for Tantrums and Tiaras: Battle of the Bar Queens 2014 – and they’re going fast!
The show, scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 16 at 7 pm, is an over-the-top drag competition where representatives from some of the community’s bars with little or no drag experience compete for the crown.
Since the last Tantrums and Tiaras in 2009, organizers have been planning for this year’s show, which is planned to be bigger and better than ever.
Contestants from Baja Betty’s, Babycakes, Lips, Martinis Above Fourth, Rich’s and Urban Mo’s will participate in a high-production spoof of the “Miss America Pageant” complete with a “talent” showcase. The event will be nothing like a “traditional drag show” and the “non-performing queens” who are participating in the competition will try their best to strut around the stage in stilettos, trying not to fall over.
Audience members will have to see the show to find out what’s in store, but in its first year, contestants surprised the audience with a live donkey, roller skates, flying effects on stage and more. Tantrums and Tiaras is expected to be one of the “wow” events of 2014.
Produced in partnership with the Mo’s Universe family of restaurants (Urban Mo’s, Baja Betty’s, Gossip Grill, and Hillcrest Brewing Company), Tantrums and Tiaras benefits The San Diego LGBT Community Center.
Known as The Center, the organization works to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the LGBT and HIV communities by providing activities, programs and services that create community; empower community members; provide essential resources; advocate for civil and human rights; and embrace, promote and support cultural diversity. The Center provided direct support to more than 50,000 community members last year.
Tickets are expected to sell out at North Park Theatre, so buy seats as soon as possible. Tickets start at $35 and go up, depending on seating selection. To purchase tickets, click HERE.
