We took a trip to Julian with some friends to get away from the city for a few hours. Our first stop was Mom’s for some pie and apple cider. We tried a sugar free apple pie with melted cheddar cheese. Yes, it’s an option and it is good! We also had the apple boysenberry crumb a la mode. We walked around and took pictures of historic buildings, parks and horses. We also stopped by the Julian Jail that was built in 1914 and at one point contained the only indoor toilet in Julian. It’s a perfect way to spend a Saturday with friends.
She She Dance
There’s a new dance in town for the ladies called She She Dance. It will be held every first Saturday of the month. They had their Grand Opening night at Wang’s in North Park Jan. 4. They took over the second floor and a few hundred women showed up. We ran into many friends that we hadn’t seen in months. It was like a mini-reunion. Some ladies opted to have dinner first and others went straight to the dance floor. The owners were receptive to some of the critiques we had overheard about the music and space. We think this openness for future changes will make it one of the must-go-to monthly events. They’ve announced that they’re looking for a bigger venue to accommodate the crowd.

We’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Celebrations abounded as people said their goodbyes to 2013 and welcomed 2014 with open arms and optimism. The beginning of the year is a time of renewal in which we reflect on the things we hope to change. Hopefully, you haven’t given up on your resolutions already. It takes persistence to form a habit so it’s best to remember why you are making these changes and just keep moving.
Let this year be better than the past. Vow to do some of the things that you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t find the time. It doesn’t have to be complicated or insurmountable. Make time to share a funny story with someone whose spirits are down, express gratitude by giving credit where it’s due or, remind yourself that you are worth it. Love yourself, be yourself and shine amongst those who never believed you could. And don’t forget to stay up-to-date with us by reading Scene Out!
