SAN DIEGO – The Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA) Charitable Foundation and the Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) have announced that the Mardi Gras celebration in Hillcrest will continue. Absolut Hillcrest Mardi Gras has been held for the last twelve years and the HBA hopes to bring new and exciting elements to the longstanding event.
“The GSDBA Charitable Foundation is pleased to move forward with the HBA to ensure that we continue to provide scholarships to deserving LGBT college students and allies,” enthused Stampp Corbin, president of the GSDBA Charitable Foundation. In the last twelve years more than $125,000 in scholarships has been awarded.
Johnathan Hale, president of the Hillcrest Business Association Board, said “The HBA is proud to produce the Hillcrest Mardi Gras celebration and will be introducing a whole new concept and name, ‘Fat Tuesday’. In keeping with our commitment to LGBT youth scholarships we are pleased to continue to support those efforts through the GSDBA Charitable Foundation.”
The Hillcrest Business Association has used its proceeds from Mardi Gras for the promotion of the Hillcrest neighborhood, as well as neighborhood beautification projects.
The 2014 Mardi Gras will be celebrated Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in Hillcrest and promises to be another fun-filled evening featuring food, live entertainment, costumes and of course, beads! More details to follow in the coming weeks.

Did no one tell Mr. Hale what “Mardi Gras” means in the French language ? “Fat Tuesday” is hardly a new name….
Worst ever MARDI GRAS, unorganized. You lied there was no food?. Not one person who should know why and fix it, did not fix it. Bar called last call at 945pm? Horrible spot, no vendors or show of support for you and MARDI GRAS like 3 and the years before your horribly ran organization took over.
Even to get in was disorganized, and I paid for VIP and got regular arm band? VIP area never saw it so abandoned.
Let Mo’s organize it like it should be.
And no beads worth a damn? It is MARDI GRAS guys? Wake up…..
