Being Alive San Diego and Babycakes have teamed up for the World AIDS Day on December 1. Babycakes will be selling a special Red Ribbon cupcake through the month of December and $1 will be donated to Being Alive. “We thank Babycakes for their support of Being Alive” states Shannon Wagner, executive director at Being Alive. “Without integral support from Babycakes and other businesses in San Diego Being Alive San Diego could not survive.” says Wagner.
“We at Babycakes believe it is important to continue to show support in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It continues to affect our community as well as the world at large. The best way to fight this disease, support those affected by it, honor those who have succumbed to it, and stop the spread of it is by being HIV aware and having the facts about the disease. We are excited to be partnering with Being Alive to help accomplish this goal. People can show their support for World Aids Day this year with their sweet tooth all month long. A dollar from the sale of special Red Ribbon cupcake on sale for the month of December will be donated to this cause,” states Craig Wilson, general manager at Babycakes located at 3766 Fifth Avenue in Hillcrest.
“We at Being Alive hope that we can serve the rising number of clients that come in each day even though funding for HIV/AIDS support services has been cut across the board. In 2011 we have seen a 33% increase in clients seeking services. AIDS is not a chronic disease for us to manage. It remains a fight for dignity and for basic human rights: shelter, health care and the pursuit of a better life. We must fight on and renew our promise to do more”, states Shannon Wagner, executive director at Being Alive.
Being Alive San Diego’s mission is to deliver quality and compassionate services to people affected by HIV/AIDS and to provide education to those in need. Being Alive was formed by 6 HIV + individuals in 1989 to address the need for “peer driven” support and services. Today Being Alive is the longest running AIDS service organization in San Diego, serving more that 10,000 individuals every year.
