Award-winning singer/songwriter, Eric Himan, returns to San Diego for one night only at Lestat’s Coffeehouse, 3343 Adams Ave., Dec. 18 at 9 p.m.
Himan may be a staple in his current city of Tulsa, but more and more, there are people outside of Oklahoma who are taking notice of him. The San Diego stop is part of the singer/songwriter’s current West Coast tour performing songs from his most accomplished release to date, Gracefully.
Himan will be joined onstage with his upright bassist, Matt Hayes, who also performs with Wayne Newton and formerly the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey.
Himan flexes his writing muscles on Gracefully more so than ever before, from the moving “Waiting for Thunder,” inspired by Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani student shot by the Taliban for promoting girls’ education to the Latin-tinged “Red Hot Tears,” (see video above) to the title track that evokes his recently deceased grandmother who help raise him, teaching him to, as he puts it, “live life like you taught me: gracefully.”
With the release of Gracefully, Himan has opened for the likes of Patty Griffin, Leon Russell, Edwin McCain among other influential artists. “It has been amazing to be able to perform alongside those who directly inspired me to be a songwriter. When they turn around and give you a compliment about your own music, it is the craziest, most rewarding thing ever,” Himan recounts. His songs have found their way on to SiriusXM’s The Coffeehouse and his song, “Everything To You” was specifically selected for the clothing store, Hollister’s in-store playlist alongside Vampire Weekend and Justin Timberlake tracks.
