WASHINGTON — The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has called on Congress to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) which would provide strong federal protections against discrimination, making it illegal to base hiring decisions or to fire someone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
“Workers for more than a century have joined forces to protect each other from intolerance and favoritism,” said Jim Hoffa, Teamsters general president. “We support ENDA because we stand for fair treatment of all workers, as we always have. Workers cannot be divided for any reason, whether it be race, religion, ethnicity, gender or any other basis.”
The Teamsters applaud the Senate for breaking the filibuster and moving ahead with this important legislation and urge senators to pass ENDA quickly.
“I urge the House of Representatives to look into their hearts and take the same course,” Hoffa continued.
Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
