David Cohen, Bobby Jones and the Verant Group have purchased the North Park Theatre located in the center of what Forbes Magazine calls one of the hippest neighborhoods in the U.S. West Coast Tavern has been operating in the lobby of the theater for more than four years and the purchase is a perfect fit for the successful hospitality company. The group has big plans for the theater and will significantly increase the number of concerts and movies, giving San Diegan’s many more reasons to come experience this beautiful venue.
“The theater has been under-utilized for many years due to financial and staffing constraints,” says Cohen. “The building needs a full-time management team in place that can dedicate 100 percent of their efforts and resources to booking the venue. We have assembled an all-star team to accomplish this task and look forward to producing about 200 events per year.”
The programming will be mainly a mix of concerts and movies with full food and alcohol service inside the theater. Our vision is Casbah meets Cinéopolis. “We love the Casbah and the amazing things Tim Mays has done for music in San Diego,” says Cohen, “and we really enjoy the Cinéopolis cinema concept in Del Mar. We are aiming to create an affordable music and movies concept that is reflective of North Park’s arts-craving clientele.”
The new owners encourage anyone interested in holding an event at the theater to contact them through the new Web site at: www.northparktheatresd.com. “We welcome all events into the theater and are looking forward to having this beautiful building accessible to all San Diegans on a nightly basis.”
