SAN DIEGO — The Malashock Dance company will perform edgy and provocative new works in the premiere of Malashock/RAW4. The performances are Nov. 14, 15 and 16 at the Lyceum in Horton Plaza. Now in its fourth year, Malashock/RAW4 features all new choreography by Malashock Dance Artistic Director John Malashock, independent choreographer Michael Mizerany and guest choreographer Andy Noble of Noble Motion Dance in Houston, Texas. The trio has created beautiful, cutting-edge and provocative new works, poised to out-shock and out-delight audiences.

Malashock debuts The Garden Path of Lou & Laurie. This gritty dance-drama leads us down the garden path of an imaginary, doomed relationship, set to songs by real-life counterculture couple, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson. This thorny path of decline takes us through a full spectrum of emotions – longing, hopefulness, disappointment, anger, despair and, yes, even humor.
Mizerany’s newest dance piece, Unspeakable, is a high energy work that is unabashedly bold and undeniably risky. This new work delves into the nuances, complexities and the more than bizarre nature of the human condition – exposing raw vulnerability, physical daring and carnal need.
Beast is Noble’s aggressive, physically daring, and theatrical work, that utilizes facial movement as the initiation of the choreography. How does a facial expression/movement manifest itself in the body? That movement is explored and then distorted, unlocking the inner beast of the dancers.
There are just three performances of Malashock/RAW4 on the Lyceum Stage in Horton Plaza. Performances are Thursday, Nov. 14, Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $25 per person. Performances are appropriate for guests ages 16 and up.
