The Center of Southern Nevada appoints new CEO

Bob Elkins

LAS VEGAS –  The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada (The Center) has announced that it has appointed Bob Elkins as their new CEO.

“After months of searching, we are proud to say we have found someone who will not only be a pioneer for The Center, but also for the community at large,” said Raymond Wilmer, president of The Center’s Board of Directors.  “Bob’s professional aptitude could not be more perfectly in tune with our vision, and his heart with our mission.”

Elkins brings a wealth of experience and passion to The Center – from exceptional fundraising and financial skills, to firm knowledge of for-profit and nonprofit organizations, to unbridled fervor for The Center’s role in both the local and national communities.

“For me, this is the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Elkins, who begins work today.  “The Center is on its way to becoming a world-class voice for the LGBTQ community and I’m eager to lead that movement with the highest possible level of character, integrity, trust and respect.”

In his new role, Elkins will continue to engage stakeholders and build long-term relationships based on shared values and perspectives.  He plans to uphold a culture of continuous improvement and inspiration for staff, increase external activations and outreach, and expand upon all programs, services, groups and events held at The Center’s resource-laden Robert L. Forbuss Building.

Prior to joining The Center, Elkins served as the director of business development at AT&T Interactive where he managed the company’s strategic relationships.  Beginning his career in banking with First Chicago in Hong Kong, China, other previous roles include: senior engagement director for Kintera/Blackbaud; vice president of business operations for USSearch.com; director of development for Project Inform, the national leader in HIV treatment education, among others.  With persistent and far-reaching nonprofit and volunteer experience starting at the age of 16, Elkins’ breadth of professional knowledge extends far beyond the corporate sector.

Elkins moved from Southern California to Las Vegas in April 2013, when his partner Mark Hoyer accepted a position as the head of hair andmake-up for Cirque du Soleil’s production of Zarkana at Aria Resort and Casino.  Since then, Elkins has become entrenched in the local community and looks forward to meeting with as many people as possible while absorbing and developing day-to-day operations at The Center.
