SAN DIEGO – What is there not to love about hundreds of pug dogs dressed up in costume and their loving owners dog-talking over some of San Diego’s finest craft beer? Not a thing, according to one of San Diego’s happiest traditions: Pugtoberfest. Pug Rescue San Diego, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue and placement of homeless pug dogs, has teamed up with Barons Market to give San Diego its yearly dose of pug excitement at its sixth annual Pugtoberfest Oct. 5.
Saturday, Oct. 5 from 3 -6 p.m. Pugtoberfest takes over a private park at 1819 Lawndale Road in El Cajon, for a late afternoon of craft beers, great food, music, friendly people and, of course, pugs.
Barons Market, brings a new taste to the yearly event with its coveted grilled onion dogs, potato salad and craft beer kegs.
“As a local, family-owned market, we love being involved in community events like Pugtoberfest,” says Rachel Shemirani, marketing manager at Barons Market. “This is an excellent opportunity for the community to get outside and support an incredible local organization, and they can do it with puppies and beer. I’m not sure it gets better.”
All food and drink proceeds from the event benefit Pug Rescue San Diego and its mission to save neglected and abandoned pugs. Through the years Pugtoberfest still remains an opportunity to celebrate the lives of happy, healthy pugs and raise funds to provide medical care and comfort to pugs until they find a loving home.
Attendees can expect various dog-pampering booths, costume contests, photo opportunities and even a potential pug psychic. Pugtoberfest highly encourages bringing lounge chairs to kick back and relax as well as pups in costume.
Dog-lovers of all ages are welcome at Pugtoberfest. While this is a free event, attendees 21-and-over planning to indulge in alcoholic beverages need to purchase wristbands. Each wristband earns four 10 oz. glasses of beer at a cost of $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door.
