SAN FRANCISCO – Sen. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), is holding a community reception in San Francisco Saturday, Sept. 7 to honor Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, the Bay Area plaintiffs in the Proposition 8 case that was heard before the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year.
Sen. Leno and other members of the California Legislative Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Caucus recognized Perry and Stier at the Capitol earlier this year for LGBT Pride Month. The plaintiffs were two of 16 Pride awardees who were celebrated for their outstanding leadership to promote equal rights for LGBT Californians. The couple was unable to attend the June event at the Capitol because they were in Washington, D.C. awaiting the landmark Supreme Court decision on Prop. 8 that reinstated marriage equality for all couples in California.
Perry and Stier will receive a Senate resolution from Sen. Leno commemorating their courageous efforts to help secure the right for same-sex couples to marry in California.
The reception will be held at the Eureka Valley Recreation Center, 100 Collingwood Street (Between 18th and 19th) in San Francisco Saturday, Sept. 7 3-5 p.m. For more information call 415-557-1300 or emailanna.damiani@sen.ca.gov.
