Is there a house for everyone here in our neck of the woods? The answer is yes. I’ve gone through our database and selected the two extremes, the least and most expensive active properties in our inventory. I thought you’d get a kick out of comparing the two.
The starter home, the most affordable in our collection is a sweet one bedroom charmer in Pine Valley, just 45 minutes south-east of downtown San Diego. You’ll be surprised to know that this secluded 525 square foot cabin sits on more than an acre and the listing price is under $100,000. For $99,900, you can take to the country and enjoy the towering pines and oaks that surround the house, which fronts National Forest land.
Built in 1935, the home could use a bit of tender loving care but all the basics are here and a few special features as well. Some paint and a little décor freshening will make your cozy nights by the fireplace even more romantic. There’s a great big palladium window in the living room and the fresh mountain air is free.
At 400 times the price and 32 times the space of the Pine Valley residence, our loftiest and poshest offering is a 16,000 square foot estate in Rancho Santa Fe for an awe inspiring $40 million. Justifying that expense requires a whole bevy of big numbers and here they are: a more than 40 foot living room, eight bedrooms with the oversized master suite, nine bathrooms, 38 magnificently landscaped acres of rolling topography and amenities and finishes too numerous to name in this column.
Location, of course, is the basic price determinant and Rancho Santa Fe is undeniably in the top tier of U.S. residential enclaves. No. 14 in the current Forbes list of most expensive zip codes, it has fallen a bit from its 2007 ranking as No. 2 in the country. The tony neighborhood boasts some celebrity residents: Phil Mickelson, Jenny Craig, Geena Davis, Janet Jackson, Jewel and Shaun White have or still call it home. Only 4-6 miles from the Pacific coast, sportsmen of every stripe can find an opportunity to live well and play hard right at home.
When a home price is in the multi millions, there’s just more of everything – more goodies, more toys. Our super home features a resort style pool, tennis, basketball and badminton courts and manicured grounds that look more like Monet’s garden than anything meeting the common definition of a backyard. But though many may covet this lifestyle, it is not for everyone.
There’s someone out there who would much rather cuddle up in the simple quiet of the little bedroom in Pine Valley than the luxurious super master suite in Rancho Santa Fe. As we happily say in our business, lucky for us, there’s a hat for every head, and a home for every budget and style.
