San Diego REPertory Theatre presents Dirty Little Secrets starring Jai Rodriguez, Emmy Award-winning television host and actor (Rent, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy). The production is an R-rated cabaret of songs, stories and dancing revealing his life, lusts, loves and lessons learned. Dirty Little Secrets will only be performed for one night Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. on the Lyceum Stage.
“It’s an evening that’s half singing and dancing and half stand-up that shows that sometimes, the road to our own personal truth is through our most shame-filled moments,” said Rodriguez.
The Miami Herald says, “Yet for all of its dramatic and sometimes-sobering shadings, Dirty Little Secrets is upbeat, empowering and entertaining. In large part, that’s because of Rodriguez’s warm stage presence and the songs he and the others sing, a mixture of meaningful show tunes and pop hits.”
Rodriguez is also currently starring as Usnavi in In The Heights at San Diego REPertory Theatre now through Aug. 25.
Rodriguez began his career at age 18 when he was cast in the role of Angel in the critically acclaimed Broadway musical Rent. Most recognized for his role in Bravo’s culturally groundbreaking series Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, Rodriguez stood-out on the series as the “Culture Vulture,” a youthful and savvy addition to the show’s already dynamic cast. Rodriguez recently returned to primetime on ABC’s Malibu Country.
Rodriguez is the only male actor who after rising to stardom on a reality TV show has successfully transitioned to a series regular role on a primetime series. Actors who share the accomplishment include: Jennifer Hudson, Katherine McPhee and NeNe Leakes.
