The guitar-toting, power-pop prodigy behind the music video, “Bears,” that garnered 100,000 YouTube hits in three days, is hitting the road for a national tour from now until late fall. On his stop, he will perform at the Bamboo Lounge, 1475 University Ave. in San Diego, Sunday, Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
Tom Goss, hailing from Washington, D.C., where he lives with his husband, Michael (a frequent inspiration in his songs and performances), continues to stand at the forefront of the LGBTQ equality and arts. His three albums have allowed him to tell his unique story (Goss had once set his sights on becoming a priest) and tackles issues such as DADT and marriage equality, while at the same time gaining extensive success.
Goss’s music has been featured on ABC and HBO; his videos have topped the charts on MTV’s LOGO, and he has gained honors such as “Best Musician” by The Washington Blade two years in a row, “Favorite Male Musician” by Pride in the Arts, and “Album of the Year” by Radio Crystal Blue. In addition to these successes and accolades, his national following and sold-out shows can be attributed to word-of mouth about his live performances. His musical talent and easy-going personality combine to create an emotional and honest performance in a welcoming, fun and open-minded environment.
