SAN DIEGO – More than $2,300 and forty large boxes of clothing were donated to the Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) as part of the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus (SDGMC) community outreach mission.

“On any given day, more than 500 veterans find a helping hand at the Veterans Village,” said Marc Mangiantini, SDGMC director of Outreach.  “We’re proud to be part of the amazing work they do to improve the lives of the men and women who served our country.”

Singers and audience members made cash donations into a giant ruby-red slipper at the recent Feelin’ Groovy—Songs of the ‘60s summer concert series.  And, throughout the summer, clothing was gathered by SDGMC members and the University Christian Church (UCC) in Hillcrest where the chorus holds its rehearsals.

This is the third year SDGMC’s outreach efforts have helped local groups.  Past concert partnerships have benefited a scholarship program for abused children, a shelter for homeless and low-income women, a youth arts and music program and Mama’s Kitchen.

SDGMC has entertained San Diego audiences for nearly 30 years.  With more than 150 members, it is one of the largest choruses of its type in the world.  Anyone interested in joining the chorus may attend Info Night on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. at the UCC located at 3900 Cleveland Avenue.  For more information, go to sdgmc.org or call (877) 296-SONG.
