SAN DIEGO, – Special Delivery broke its all-time fundraising record for its annual LGBT Pride Barbecue by raising more than $10,000 on the rooftop of the Inn at the Park on the afternoon of Saturday, July 13, announced Executive Director Ruth Henricks.
“I’d like to thank the community for its overwhelming support by attending this year’s Pride Barbecue event,” said Henricks. “I am thrilled with the results! I know that our annual Pride Barbecue has become a long-time tradition for many locals and visitors after the LGBT Pride parade.”
For more than 15 years, this event has provided funding to help support Special Delivery’s home-delivered meal service for San Diegans with life-threatening illnesses such as AIDS, heart disease, kidney disease and cancer, and to support Special Delivery’s onsite food pantry for San Diegans with life-threatening illnesses and those who’ve fallen on hard times.
Henricks added her thanks to this year’s sponsors. “I’d also like to give a big thanks to all of this year’s wonderful corporate sponsors that have helped to make this year’s record-breaking results possible: Pecs Bar, gold sponsor; Kaiser Permanente and The Loft Bar, silver sponsors; and California Bank & Trust and Hillcrest Pharmacy, bronze sponsors,” she stated, “and a big ‘thank you’ to the people at the Inn at the Park for providing the space for our event.”
Founded in 1991, Special Delivery prepares, packages and delivers fresh nutritious meals and provides groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and kidney disease in San Diego. To date, the non-profit organization has delivered more than 1.6 million meals to over 5,000 clients. In addition, Special Delivery has provided groceries to more than 2,000 San Diegans at its onsite food pantry this year.
