LCR president, LGBT activists to call for investigation into Dronenburg’s ‘rogue’ actions

Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) of San Diego County President Susan Jester, Navy veteran Sean Sala, Pastor Rich McCullen of Missiongathering Church and other LGBT figures have scheduled a press conference Tuesday morning at the San Diego County Administration Building to call on the County Board of Supervisors to conduct an investigation into the recent “rogue” actions of San Diego County Clerk, Ernest Dronenberg .  Mr. Dronenberg recently hired a private attorney, with a political agenda, to submit a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the state of California’s order to resume same-gender marriages.

“Ernie Dronenberg is a public official with over 20 years’ experience in state and local tax administration and I find it somewhat of a ridiculous explanation that the petition was filed to “clarify the law” according to his spokesperson,” said Jester.  “If he needed to “clarify the law”, then why did he hire the very same lawyer, Charles LiMandri, (who drove the Proposition 8 initiative with his organization, Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund), declared by SCOTUS to have no standing?  This action doesn’t pass the smell test for me and as a conservative Republican, I am offended by the use of taxpayers’ money to line the pockets of the very guy who brought the defeated unconstitutional action in the first place,”continued Jester.

“Using the office of the County Clerk of San Diego to further a religious and political agenda is a serious violation of the public’s trust, it’s un-American and it sure doesn’t represent my conservative values. County Clerk Ernie Dronenberg is an elected official and he is accountable to the taxpayers of San Diego County.  I am calling on the Board of Supervisors today, to investigate these actions fully, and I am asking Chairman Cox to direct County Clerk Dronenberg to “stand down” immediately, stop wasting the taxpayer’s money, obey the order from the state of California and do the job the voters elected him to do.”said Jester.

  1. Oh give me a break. They guy’s just sincerely concerned that he may be violating the State Constitution and his oath of office by following the Governor’s possibly illegal order. I’m proud of him for having the presence of mind and strength of character to do that and stand up to people like those who wrote this article who really don’t want him questioning this, despite the fact that this is truly a question for the courts.. He’s still conducting these “marriages” and has said he will do so until he gets better direction from the court. What is your problem with ANY of that? Hey, if you don’t like the law or the State Constitution, change them!

  2. Karen, your bias is betrayed by the fact that you use the word marriage in quotation marks. He is obviously using his elected office to advance his ideological agenda, and as a San Diego taxpayer I have a problem with that. You seem to forget that there is also a FEDERAL Constitution that trumps the state Constitution, and Proposition 8 is a clear violation of the 14th Amendment, as the district court properly declared when issuing their injunction.

  3. Karen,

If he just wanted clarification, he would have asked the county counsel, the AG’s office, or the federal court that issued the injunction, not hired one of the lead Prop 8 attorneys to take the issue to the Supreme Court.
