The Women

Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell and Norma Shearer in The Women

Turner Classic Movies, 5 p.m., Saturday, July 13

It seems fitting that while San Diego is whooping it for Pride, TCM will be playing the original high-camp movie about bitchy women saying mean things to each other. I’ve told you to DVR it before! It demands repeat viewings.

Norma Shearer stars as Mary, Mrs. Stephen Haines, who discovers her husband is cheating on her with Crystal Allen, played by vampy Joan Crawford. The gossiping, griping and snide commentary on marriage and divorce is so fast that you may need to pause and rewind to get them all, but if you get with the rhythm, you’re in for a great time. And you’ll be amazed by how many lines have been repurposed by your favorite catty queens. It was remade three times, but the original is the best.
