SAN DIEGO — The San Diego LGBT Center announced today that registration for the all-new AIDS Walk San Diego is now open, and that there are some great new additions to this year’s event.
In addition to new routes for both the Walk and Run, organizers are adding a “Street Challenge” obstacle course! It all happens at the 24th annual event Sunday, Sept. 29 in Balboa Park.
Not only are there exciting new routes and options to choose from, but organizers are also expanding the Walk festival area to include a Health and Wellness focus. There will be free fitness classes, exhibitors and a wealth of wonderful non-profits to get involved with.
It’s all good fun, and it’s all for a good cause. AIDS Walk remains San Diego County’s largest HIV/AIDS fundraiser. We are all still living with HIV/AIDS, so it’s vital we continue to step up and support the approximately 12,500 people living with HIV in our county and show them we care.
Despite ongoing education efforts, one in five people with HIV in San Diego do not know their HIV status. Moreover, only one in three people in San Diego who do know that they have HIV/AIDS are routinely able to access HIV primary medical care and HIV medication.
AIDS Walk & Run San Diego has a dual mission to increase community awareness about testing and treatment resources here in San Diego, as well as, to raise critical funds for the direct service providers in our community who are at the front lines of the epidemic.
