dvd of the week
If you happen to come across this DVD in someone’s garbage can – do not pay for it – you may enjoy a good couple hours of hate-watching. As ineptly written and directed as the worst of the Razzie Award-winners, Temptation focuses on Judith (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), an entitled, ambitious, holier-than-thou woman who is married to hot but dull pharmacist (Lance Gross) and is tempted by a rich man (Robbie Jones). After she succumbs to the rich man’s extremely aggressive overtures, she becomes evil and contracts HIV. The moralism of the film is retrograde, to say the least, but it is communicated with such little skill that I doubt anyone is going to be swayed by Perry’s argument. But it certainly isn’t a boring movie, which almost makes it fun to watch as camp idiocy.
