SAN DIEGO – The San Diego LGBT Community Center has announced that the 2013 AIDS Walk & Run San Diego will take place Sunday, Sept. 29 in Balboa Park.
The 24th annual event will feature new routes for both the Walk and the Run, and an all-new 5K “Street Challenge” obstacle course.
The post-Walk festival has been expanded and will include information booths from the AIDS Walk funding recipient organizations and community partners. This new health and wellness fair will also include free fitness classes (including yoga and Zumba), a pet rest area, face painting for the kids, healthy snacks, a high-energy DJ and much more.
The Run will begin at 7:30 a.m., the Walk will step off at 8:30 a.m. and the “Street Challenge” obstacle course will begin at 9 a.m. in heats of 100 people, with new heats following every half hour.
AIDS Walk is San Diego County’s largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraiser, and last year helped deliver more than $400,000 in grants to 10 local agencies. In addition to providing much-needed funding for local HIV/AIDS service organizations that serve the approximately 12,500 people living with HIV in San Diego County, AIDS Walk helps raise awareness about the impact of HIV and AIDS.
