If you don’t have Netflix, you probably missed their 13-episode original series about the cruel world of Washington politics, which was also easily the best thing on TV this year. Starring Kevin Spacey in his greatest role – which is saying a lot – he is supported by Robin Wright, Kate Mara and Corey Stoll, who are also at the height of their powers. Spacey plays a congressman who is angered that he has been passed over for secretary of state and decides to create an intricate plot to gain power and position, and he uses and abuses his wife (Wright), a young congressman (Stoll) and an ambitious reporter (Mara) to get what he wants. The writing is sharp and wicked, and the plot turns are dastardly cruel to the audience. I watched all 13 episodes in one day.
