The GLBT National Help Center to participate in ‘Give OUT Day’

SAN FRANCISCO – The Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Help Center has announced it will be part of Give Out Day, May 9.  In January Bolder Giving in partnership with the Kevin Mossier Foundation and Forward Motion announced the launch of Give OUT Day, a new national initiative that aims to mobilize thousands of individual donors across the country to give in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) nonprofit community.

“Less than 5 percent of the LGBTQ community gives to an LGBTQ cause, according to research from the Horizons Foundation and Movement Advancement Project,” says Bolder Giving’s Executive Director Jason Franklin. “Give OUT Day aims to raise awareness of the need to support LGBTQ nonprofits and elevate the level of LGBTQ philanthropy.”

“We expect to have over 500 or more LGBTQ organizations from all over the country participate in this first Give OUT Day,” says Noris Chavarría, Give OUT Day coordinator.

In a press statement Aaron Almanza , deputy executive director for Operations and Administration, GLBT National Help Center said, “The national conversation has been focused on marriage equality for the past several years and while it is great to see our country moving in the right direction, it must be remembered that for some marriage equality is the furthest thing in their mind. There are still those in our community living in fear and doubt. There are teens dealing with coming out to family members and adults dealing with discrimination in the work place. There are those in our country who live in fear of violence simply for being who they are. Before you can be a voice for change and a voice for equality, you must be able have the confidence to find your voice. The GLBT National Help Center’s online support and two hotlines help callers find their self-reliance and find their voice.

“We’re excited to be part of Give OUT Day, to remind the GLBT community and the community at large that there is still work to be done to bring equality to all people, in all its forms. Give OUT Day is a great strategy to connect the community that wants to help and non-profits that are working hard, to join together to for real change.”

Give OUT Day will be breaking new ground as it adapts a fundraising model that has proven successful for local multi-issue fundraising to a national single-issue focus. Give OUT Day will engage and unite thousands of donors and organizations across the country that believe in the power and impact of LGBTQ nonprofits in daily life.
