18-year-old and HIV
Recently, an 18 year-old-friend of mine told me his doctor told him he had HIV. This young gay man was upset but then told me he hardly ever used condoms and none of his other young friends used them either.
What the hell! It’s unbelievable, but many of our younger generation I find really has this carefree attitude. Everyone should practice safer-sex because HIV/AIDS can happen to you. Just ask my friend.
Cesar Chavez
In the 1970s farm workers leader and now civil rights icon Cesar Chavez became the first civil rights leader to come out for homosexual equality.
Chavez and the late Harvey Milk became friends and Milk supported the grape boycott and Latino causes.
In the 1980s I asked Cesar Chavez to come march and speak at the March on Washington for gay rights, and he did and I had the honor of introducing him at the rally where he spoke to hundreds of thousands of people. Later Chavez would say it was the biggest crowd he ever spoke to.
Supporting gun control
It’s time that all Americans stand up to the bullying of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and support more gun control laws. It’s unbelievable and very disturbing how much power and influence that the NRA has over our Congress and Senate.
The growing gun violence and murders of innocent people makes headlines almost every week and yet it seems no one cares enough to try to stop the madness.
When will Americans finally wake up and take action and speak up for more gun control?
Women’s health issues under attack
Now more than ever, the radical right wing conservatives have taken aim at women’s rights to choose Planned Parenthood.
Many states are introducing new legislation in attempts to cut funding for Planned Parenthood and stop women’s right to choose and decide on their own personal health issues.
These new proposed laws especially affect poor women and those of color. It is important that we support women’s rights to choose and make their own personal decisions on health issues.
Happy Birthday Pastor Dan!
The Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) has been a most important foundation for the GLBT community of San Diego since the 1970s and its church pastors have all become very important and respected leaders for social justice and equality for all people.
The MCC has always welcomed all Christians and made everyone feel welcomed.
This week Pastor Dan celebrated another birthday and he has indeed become a role model for us all. Kind, giving and always a smile for everyone he meets.
I wish him a most happy birthday and thank him for all he has done for so many. God bless you, Pastor Dan.

The Croods: These cartoon-like movies are really getting out of hand. A very stupid movie.
Olympus Has Fallen: a must-see movie! But it’s so real, especially with the North Korea current headlines. It kinda hits too close to home for comfort.
Jack the Giant Slayer: You would rather go to the dentist than see this movie!
The pure stupidity behind giving up our second amendment rights goes far beyond your usual propaganda Nichole. You give up your guns and you are at the mercy of the homosexual hating criminals who have illegal guns. You give up your right to defend your family and property. The police are not there to protect you, that is your responsibility.
Only a fool drinking communist authoritarian Kool-Aid would give up their right to own and bear arms.
