Bacon condoms put the pork back in ‘porking’

J&D's Bacon Condoms

SEATTLE — From the files of the strange and unusual comes news that a company has manufactured the first bacon condom. J & D’s Foods, a maker of all things bacon, has announced that one of America’s favorite breakfast foods – bacon- will be the basis for the next product to roll off their production line. Their current list of products includes bacon salt, bacon croutons, bacon gravy, baconnaise (a bacon mayo blend) and, naturally, a bacon-flavored lip balm.

“Truly the new standard of animal protein themed prophylactics Bacon Condoms are proudly Made in America of the highest quality latex and rigorously tested to help ensure the utmost reliability and safety for when you’re makin’ Bacon,” states the company’s press release. The condom will of course be flavored with baconlube.

The Seattle-based company, whose motto is ‘everything should taste like bacon,’ started as a dream by the bacon-loving company’s founders – Justin Esch and Dave Lefkow – whose mutual love of the food (and $5000 in prize money Dave’s 3-year-old son won on America’s Favorite Home Videos)helped launch their pork-based vision.

And while there is an element of downright strangeness to the company’s roster of products – bacon-scented sunscreen anyone? – that very quirkiness may appeal to a generation of younger people who have seen a rise in HIV rates over the last several years. Almost 1-in-4 people between the ages of 18 and 29, reports LiveScience.com, use the word ‘hassle’ when asked to describe having to use a condom every time they engage in sexual intercourse.

Moreover, recent report s by the CDC indicate that almost 1000 young people aged 13-to-24 are contracting the HIV virus despite more than 30 years of familiarity with the disease.

In a note of mordant irony, the founders have also created the first bacon coffin which sells for just under$3,000.
