EQCA announces Dave Roberts as San Diego Leadership honoree and opens State Farm Good Neighbor Award nominations

SAN DIEGO — Equality California (EQCA) today announced that Supervisor Dave Roberts will be honored at the San Diego Equality Awards with the EQCA Leadership Award, and that nominations are now open for the event’s State Farm Good Neighbor Award.

Roberts is the proudly gay District 3 supervisor for the County of San Diego, and has served Solana Beach as city councilmember, deputy mayor and mayor previously. He has been an appointed health care advisor to Presidents Bush and Obama, and earned national recognition for improving health care access through Medicare, Medicaid and children’s health insurance coverage.

“San Diego Supervisor Dave Roberts’ tireless commitment to improving the lives of San Diegans and Americans provides an inspiration to the rest of us,” said John O’Connor, EQCA executive director. “He is an brilliant choice for our Leadership Award.”

EQCA also announced the open call for nominations for the State Farm Good Neighbor Award, given to a community activist who embodies the grassroots work that is essential to securing a state of full equality. Last year’s award winner was Dr. Joel Trambly, recognized for his longstanding activism within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The San Diego Equality Awards will be having a kickoff party  March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the W Hotel San Diego, co-hosted by Randy Clark, Susan Guinn, Nicole Murray Ramirez, Joyce Rowland and Claire Stafford. For more information and tickets, visit www.eqca.org/sd-kickoff.
