The board of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center has appointed John Jones as the new 2013 Pride @ The Beach director.
Jones, 23, began his educational career in 2009 at Palomar College in San Marcos where he became active in the campus’ LGBTQA club. He later became the vice president and then the president.
Currently, Jones attends California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) where he is completing coursework toward a Bachelors of Science in psychology with a minor in women’s studies. Upon his acceptance to CSUSM in the fall of 2012, Jones became the new president of the CSUSM LGBTQA club, and continues to promote diversity in all forms throughout his campus and his community.
Each year the Pride @ The Beach event funds the annual Gay/Straight Alliance Awards. These awards go directly to North County Gay/Straight Alliance clubs in the middle schools and high schools. These clubs promote respect for diversity in their schools, play a critical role in stopping and preventing harassment and discrimination against LGBTQ students, and help ensure that schools are safe for everybody.
