EQCA endorses Ben Hueso for 40th District of California Senate

Ben Hueso

SAN DIEGO – Equality California announced today the endorsement of Assemblymember Ben Hueso for the 40th District of the state Senate, representing Imperial County and parts of San Diego and Riverside Counties. Hueso currently represents the 80th District of the state Assembly, and is running to replace Rep. Juan Vargas, who won election to U.S. Congress in November. Hueso has a 100 percent rating from EQCA, and has worked frequently with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in San Diego.

“With Assemblymember Ben Hueso, we know that we have an ally who takes concerns like school safety, anti-gay hate crimes and effective health care for LGBT people seriously,” said John O’Connor, EQCA executive director. “He has repeatedly and proactively reached out to the LGBT community, and we’re proud to make him the first endorsement of the year for EQCA.”

Hueso has continually worked to decrease hate crimes, including those committed because of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression; as a member of San Diego City Council, he sponsored a resolution that named March 10, 2009 “United for a Hate Free San Diego Day,” and authored Assembly of California Resolution 86, naming February 2012 “No Place for Hate Month,” encouraging the discussion of bias crimes and their prevention in public schools.

  1. I have my ballot in front of me and want to vote but know nothing about Assemblymember Hueso. I live in Palm Springs area. A San Diego State Senator seems remote from my area and I wondered if you have any plans to look into the issues we are facing here?
    Thank you,
