The San Diego Pool League (SDPL) will begin their 70th season and 35th year Monday, Jan. 28 2013 and the league is now looking for men and women interested in either joining a team or forming a team of their own.
The SDPL is San Diego’s oldest sporting organization and is the only pool league in San Diego catering primarily to the LGBT community and their friends. It is the only pool league that plays by the official BCA Billiard Congress of America rules of play.
Currently, the league hosts 24 teams with three divisions playing out of 13 sponsor bars and there are plans to expand to a fourth division this coming season.
The SDPL accommodates all skill levels and all team matches take place Monday nights with home team practice beginning at 6 p.m., visiting team practice at 6:30 p.m. and match play starting promptly at 7 p.m. Matches usually end by 10 p.m.
Teams consist of between four and seven players and the weekly cost is between $1.75 and $7 depending on games played. The spring season is 14 weeks followed by another four weeks of playoffs.
“The SDPL provides its members an opportunity to meet other members of the LGBT community, have an inexpensive night out, play in competitive divisions consisting of players with similar skill levels, win trophies for both team and individual play and compete in the state championship West Coast Challenge which rotates between San Diego, Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Francisco,” said Mike Passante, SDPL community relations representative.
“If you are looking for something fun to do on Monday nights, new to the gay scene and looking to meet new people and make new friends or just love competition wherever you can find it, then come play with us,” continued Passante.
Open enrolment is now underway and interested men and women should check out the SDPL Web Site at sdpool.org or call 619-822-6419.
